Building your retirement plan, meeting by meeting
Kickoff
We get you set up in RightCapital (our planning software) and walk through what we'll cover in the coming weeks. You'll leave with a clear picture of what to expect and what we need from you between meetings.
Your Baseline Plan
We walk through your current financial picture and project it forward through retirement. Where are you today? What does your plan look like if nothing changes? Where are the gaps? This is the honest starting point — before we talk about optimizing anything, we need a clear view of what's actually there.
Income and Tax Strategy
We look at where your retirement income will come from, how to sequence withdrawals tax-efficiently, and which Roth conversion opportunities make sense given your situation. This is usually where the biggest dollar-value insights come up.
Investment Strategy
We review your current portfolio, look at asset location across your accounts, and build an investment strategy that aligns with your retirement income plan. You get a clear written recommendation you can implement yourself.
Insurance and Estate Planning
We review your current insurance coverage, identify gaps, and walk through your estate plan. We don't sell insurance and we're not attorneys — but we coordinate with the professionals who do and are.
Plan Delivery & Implementation Review
We walk through the written plan, answer questions, and talk through implementation priorities. About 30 days later we regroup to see what's been implemented, answer any questions that came up, and adjust anything that needs adjusting.
How we think about planning
Planning drives investments, not the other way around
A lot of advisors sell investment management and treat the financial plan as a marketing document. We do the opposite. The plan — what you want your life to look like, how you'll generate income, when you'll pay taxes — drives every investment decision we make.
Cash flows matter more than micro-optimization
Retirement success is fundamentally about managing cash flows relative to asset size. Yes, tax planning matters. Yes, we optimize for it carefully. But we never lose sight of the bigger picture: you're retiring so you can live the life you want, not so you can save another 0.3% on your tax bill at the cost of your peace of mind.
We're specialists, not generalists
We work almost exclusively with people approaching or in retirement. That's a specific life stage with specific challenges — Social Security timing, Roth conversions, Medicare decisions, drawdown strategy, legacy planning. When you work with a specialist, you get better answers faster.
The execution gap
Here's something we see over and over: a smart, capable person comes to us with a plan they've built themselves. They've read the books. They've watched the videos. They've run the numbers.
And still, somewhere in their plan, there's an error that's going to cost them real money. Bonds inside a Roth IRA. Roth conversions in the wrong sequence. Medicare enrollment timed to trigger an IRMAA surcharge that could have been avoided.
It's not a knowledge problem. It's an execution problem. The rules of retirement planning are complex enough that even people who understand them in theory get tripped up in practice. And the consequences of getting it wrong — especially in the five years before and after retirement — compound for the rest of your life.
That's what we're here for. Not to tell you things you don't already know, but to make sure that what you do know actually gets executed correctly, in the right order, at the right time, every year for the rest of your life.
Let's see if it's a fit.
If you think we might be a fit, the best next step is a short intro call. We'll learn about your situation, you'll learn about how we work, and we'll figure out together whether it makes sense to go further.
No pressure. No obligation. Just a conversation.
